Two and a half years ago, Veronika's family arrived in Canada with very few personal belongings, hoping to build a new peaceful lifestyle while escaping the war in Ukraine.

Today, the Captain A. Roy Brown Branch 192 is proud to announce that Veronika Haidaichuk has won first place in the Intermediate Poetry category of The Remembrance Day Contest at the Dominion level, an achievement that means she secured first place previously at the Branch, Zone, District, and Provincial levels.

Her poem, along with many other first-place student submissions, can be viewed at 177 George St, Carleton Place.

The picture also shows the schools award for having fostered Remembrance in their students. Great job Notre Dame Catholic High School.

Next year, we encourage all students, both those attending traditional schools, and those who are home schooled, to take part in the Remembrance Day contest. This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to express their creativity, honour the sacrifices of veterans, and engage with the important history of our country. We welcome submissions from students of all backgrounds and learning environments, and look forward to celebrating their meaningful contributions.
